Contentious Character is a contemporary vineyard estate with winery, cellar door, kitchen, and function facilities. They offer a unique tasting experience with their extensive range of aged vintages, from their Founders Museum collection.

"The Lambert family made high quality wines with great skill and sensitivity." – Halliday Wine Companion, 2017.

These aged wines have matured exceptionally well with cellaring and now present a mellow complexity, way beyond their value. They are complemented by the new releases of recent vintages, under the Contentious Character brand.

Look across the vineyard and surrounding countryside, while their kitchen serves up a fresh, local, sharing menu, including wood fired dishes, and charcuterie, all paired to the wines. That's hardly contentious

  • Le Tres Bon restaurant - Christophe Gregoire

Chef Christophe and Josephine are passionate about fresh, local produce, which Bungendore’s providores put at chef’s fingertips, including organic meat. Some would call his style “slow food”; however, the much older French term terroir is a better description. It means “a sense of place”, the idea that a region’s climate, soil and physical shape of the landscape add distinctive flavours to its agricultural produce.  This, Christophe believes, is the difference between a meal and a lasting gastronomic experience.  French cooking classes are conducted throughout the year, as well a food & wine tours to France and New Caledonia.

Bungendore Business Excellence Awards

The 2017 Business Excellence Awards were presented at Le Tres Bon on Friday 11th August 2017, at the Bungendore Chamber of Commerce and Industry AGM. The major focus of the night was the celebration of the nominees and winners for the BCCI 2017 Excellence in Business Awards. There were 5 Awards with Business of the Year – The Big Green Cup Service Excellence - The Wellbeing Pilates Studio Presidents Award - Southern Harvest Farmers Market Bungendore Trade Services Award – MOJO Constructions Community Service Award – Palerang Financial Services BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARDED TO “ The Big Green Cup” Linda Brown and Vicki Cannon pride themselves on homemade cakes and scones. They have a delightful light meals menu, fresh and healthy and a wide range of gluten free options. Linda, Vicki and their staff not only offer great food, fantastic servings and great coffee, but their hospitality is second to none. Great location and awesome name and decor, a very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. Linda and Vicki opened this cafe nearly 10 years ago with little more than a cup and saucer, and have built a successful small business opening 7 days a week. They have built their business up with perseverance and optimism and have obtained a large following of regular local customers, regular travellers to and from the coast and the visitor to Bungendore who gives fabulous reviews to Trip Advisor. An avid employee of local people so much so they have seen many a Bungendorian Youth start with the casual weekend job at the Big  Green Cup, then  take their experience on to bigger and better adventures forging their own career. Linda and Vicki also give back to the community by way of volunteering their time at local events. They are members of the Chamber of Commerce and The Rotary Club. The Big Green Cup is a great example of a little idea mixed with some determination demonstrating exemplary practice to achieve success. An overwhelming number of nominations were received for The Big Green Cup which has lead our decision to Congratulate Linda and Vicki as 2017 Bungendore Business of the Year. SERVICE EXCELLENCE AWARDED TO “Wellbeing Pilates Studio” The Wellbeing Pilates Studio was established in 1998 with the "aim to enable all their clients to appreciate how powerful their bodies can be when trained to their optimum potential”. Cathy Preston and her team of instructors offer consistent high quality service to every client from the friendly greeting when you walk in the door to the farewell as you leave. The whole experience is fun even while you are working hard to get stronger. The business runs special classes for new mothers and their babies.  It really has developed in to its own small community where many locals get to meet each other. The staff tailor the training to suit the needs of every client (even in group classes) no matter what their ability level and life circumstances. This business has achieved amazing results for people living with disabilities and injuries by combining technical expertise with positive attitude and social connection. The lovely trainers are the reason people keep returning to the studio. Their friendly, warm and welcoming attitude is the essence of the business. The many nominations that were received by the BCCI for the Wellbeing Pilates Studio lead to the decision to Congratulate Cathy and her team for the 2017 Service Excellence Award. PRESIDENTS AWARD GOES TO “Southern Harvest Farmers Market Bungendore" The Southern Harvest Association is an educational and marketing non-profit incorporated local food association at the forefront of supporting and promoting local and regional food production and consumption in South East NSW and ACT. The Southern Harvest Association operates the Southern Harvest Farmers Market in Bungendore, which is one of very few truly regional farmers’ markets in our region, with all market produce sold being grown or made by the stallholders. The Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 9am-12pm at the Anglican Hall in Butmaroo Street, Bungendore. The Southern Harvest Farmers Market in Bungendore is deserving of the Presidents Award for its achievements of bringing our community the experience of local produce and to offer a means for our local producers to sell their products. The organisation has also been extremely successful in the organisation of two major events this past year, the first being “The Harvest Festival” where over 3000  people arrived in our village to experience this wonderful festival and give other local businesses a boost in the economy. A festival which I’m sure will grow bigger and better each coming year. The other  event was the Yuletide Festival in which the organisation partnered again with local businesses for another successful weekend. Congratulations to Penny Kothe and her team for the 2017 Presidents Award. TRADE SERVICES AWARD GOES TO “Mojo Constructions” MOJO Constructions is a local business employing local tradespeople and sourcing materials from local suppliers when available.  MOJO Constructions is a diverse and versatile construction company catering for all your construction needs. With a focus on professionalism and quality, Mark Osark and his experienced subcontractors are prepared to meet your personal construction requirements. Nominations that were received by the BCCI talked about MOJO Constructions' quality of work and attention to detail as being second to none, outstanding customer service, quality build and good value for money. MOJO Construction  certainly has some happy clients.  They have described Mark as a great leader of his team, the ability to think outside the square and arriving at quality solutions. Congratulations Mojo Constructions for being the winner of the 2017 Trade Services Award. COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD - PALERANG FINANCIAL SERVICES PFSL is the operator and franchisee of Bungendore and Braidwood Community Banks. It is a Community Service Business that is managed by a Board of Directors who are all unremunerated volunteers. This business also employs local residents to deliver important financial service outcomes to our local area. The directors work tirelessly to govern and guide the business in a commercial world with all the profits being directed back to the local community. The main outcome the Directors aim to achieve is the outcomes back to the community in the form of sponsorship and grants. In the past 12 months our community Banks have given over half a million dollars back to the community across the Palerang area. This has been developed, negotiated and lead by the directors to deliver opportunities for the small organisations in our community and to undertake large major projects. Many large community projects would not have eventuated if it wasn’t for the dedication and passion of the Directors of the Community Bank and Palerang Financial Services. They dedicate many volunteer hours formulating, managing, writing, talking and submitting proposals to various Government Politians  (local, state and Federal levels) to achieve many major successful infrastructure projects throughout the Bungendore and Braidwood areas. In many cases The Community Bank has provided the seed money to facilitate these negotiations which have had a huge benefit to the greater community at large. These have included playgrounds, a Scout Hall for Bungendore, Sporting/ Recreation Areas, Showgrounds facilities, major facilities for Braidwood Hospital, major sponsorship to the Snowy Hydro Care Helicopter, Abbeyfield Aged Care Facility, Gundillion Mobile Phone Tower, and repairs to historic halls to name a few, then there are small organisations that are just as important that have benefited like the local basketball and football and other sporting clubs, tennis court resurfacing, shade cloths for children playgrounds, many pony clubs, scouts, preschools, quilters etc etc. A rewarding job and a job well done by the dedicated Volunteer Directors of Palerang Financial Services. Congratulations for winning the 2017 Community Service Award.
