Copies of the new 2018-19 full colour Bungendore Directory are being distributed to all homes and businesses in the local area. Thanks so much to Sharon Rasker, John Salmond, Linda Williams and Juliet Dowling for their efforts in bringing this project to fruition. The 2018 Business Excellence Awards were presented at Cafe Wood Works on Friday 10th August 2018, at the Bungendore Chamber of Commerce and Industry AGM. The major focus of the night was the celebration of the nominees and winners for the BCCI 2018 Excellence in Business Awards. There were 3 Special Commendations and 5 Awards with,

1. Business of the Year
2. Service Excellence
3. Presidents Award
4. Trade Services Award
5. Community Service Award

Special Commendations go to the establishment of new businesses and commitment to Bungendore Businesses.

SPECIAL COMMENDATION The Big Green Cup (Sarah Schiliro)

This business was Business of the Year in 2017, but has now been taken over by an energetic staff that prides itself in equal opportunity employment.  The many nominations (8) for the BGC gave resounding accounts of professional and friendly service. To quote “Friendly staff, great food and a lovely ambience. I love how they are supporting people with disabilities with work placement., and the way they are organising community events (and music). They are always thinking outside the square. A real little community hub. What a breath of fresh air for Bungendore.” Of note is that Sarah and the team have marketed widely in the region, on Facebook in particular, and have therefore brought many visitors to our village. Congratulations to Sarah and Penny and the team.

SPECIAL COMMENDATION Bliss Fur Dogs (Petria Sutton)

This business is an excellent example of growing a business in Bungendore, from home to shopfront in four years.  The many nominations (7) attest to the care and attention their pets receive and the courtesy given to them by Petria.  To quote “We all know it feels good to get some pampering, a good clean, and a haircut. For our dogs its no different. When they look good they feel good too. Unfortunately, not all groomers trest our pets with the respect and love they deserve. But Petria is amazing, and our dogs always look great, they even get a little bow”!! Congratulations Petria.

SPECIAL COMMENDATION Executive Events Solutions (Felicity Jackson)

Executive Events Solutions is a Bungendore based events management business. The company is a new start up that plans and delivers local, regional and international events. They have also promoted discussion and collaboration between local business owners.  Executive Events Solutions has become an Australian and internationally respected business in less than a year. Executive Events Solution has show-cased how a local business can make a positive impact through hard work, determination and quality services. It has successfully delivered its services to become part of iconic Australian events including the Deni Ute Muster in 2017 and 2018, the Trundle Abba festival as well as working on local events in Bungendore and Queanbeyan. Noteworthy is that the business has also won contracts for prestigious world events in Saudi Arabia, New Guinea and New Zealand. Their successes to date demonstrates how a local business can make a difference on the world stage and the value that local businesses can bring to the market place. SERVICE EXCELLENCE Awarded to Cleanseeds

Cleanseeds Pty Ltd is located at 45 Molonglo Street Bungendore and is a local family business owned by James Davey. This business has been providing excellent services to the farming industry through wholesale and retail seed specialisation. They also supply irrigation and fencing equipment, fertilisers, animal health products and farm chemicals along with free expert and excellent advice. Cleanseeds’ employees are customer focused and experienced, knowledgeable staff who are always there to lend an ear and happy to go beyond the norm to assist with the right solutions. A true credit to a business that has been operating since 1961. Congratulations James Davy, Justin and all the staff at Cleanseeds.

TRADE SERVICES Award goes to  Dunnydore Plumbing

Dunnydore Plumbing has been owned and operated by Dean and Rebecca Wheeler for 16 years. They provide quality Plumbing services for the local and surrounding district. A business that has been particularly responsive to customers’ needs and provide a clean and professional job whether it be large or small. They are prompt in their client management and always advise on timeframes or delays in delivering an excellent service. Congratulations Dean and Rebecca on being the winner of the 2018 Trade Services Award.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD goes to Bungendore Community Aid

Lauren Woods is the Vice President of Bungendore Community Aid Inc. It is a Community based organisation that offers to provide assistance in the time of need for the residents in the Bungendore region. Lauren Woods has been associated with the Bungendore BCA for a number of years. She is a volunteer who gives her time and car to transport clients to appointments in the local community and distant locations. Lauren is highly respected by her clients and always a friendly smile together with a very caring nature when offering her assistance to those who are ill or in need of a shoulder to lean on. During this time her next door neighbour, an elderly returned serviceman, was not well and Lauren would check his well-being, cook meals for him and transport him to appointments. Lauren volunteers her own personal time for clients to deliver and pick up medical equipment from the BCA rooms or even from her own home. Congratulations Lauren Woods, what an amazing caring lady you are in our community.  

PRESIDENT'S AWARD Goes to Bungendore Medical Centre

Bungendore Medical Centre provides medical services to the Bungendore and surrounding community. Owned by Dr Marjorie Cross, Dr Cross and her General Practitioners, Podiatrist, Phycologist, Pathology provide exceptional medical services . The Doctors spend time to thoroughly get to know your medical illness and family circumstance in order to best support you and have always been easy to contact in times of need. Right from phoning for an appointment to entering the practice you are treated with dignity, respect and total friendly and professional care. This is extremely important when you are a patient and feeling venerable and unwell. The practice opening hours are suited for the emergency, daytime, weekend and later in the evening which is very thoughtful for a transiting community. Congratulations to Dr Marjorie Cross and all the staff of the Bungendore Medical Centre.  

BUSINESS OF THE YEAR Awarded to Priceline Pharmacy

Bungendore’s local pharmacy is owned by Mr Felix Chan. A shop full of medicines, vitamins, beauty products, gift and perfumes all sold and serviced to the customers by a well-oiled customer focused team of friendly faces that provide amazing service that reminds you of the days gone by. Sangu Park and Jane the resident Pharmacists who know their customers by name are fully professional in their dispensing of medications and extremely helpful with over the counter medications that are also available. Susie Oliver and her team of Pink Ladies always come across as the happiest ladies in town. They take time to chat and help find the right products, it’s never a chore to stop what they are doing to help the elderly and frail with the most pleasant of greetings that makes a day worthwhile. Priceline Pharmacy is an essential business to Bungendore and surrounds, coupled with the extraordinary professionalism and welcoming warm response when you shop there makes a very good prescription for … Business of the Year!!! Congratulation Felix and your wonderful team who are the heartbeat of your business.

Further to the Abbeyfield presentation given by Peter Blematl at our May General Meeting, the Abbeyfield project is progressing. The project will deliver a much-needed home for seniors in Bungendore but is not government funded, so Abbeyfield are now asking the local community for support.  To contribute to the Bungendore Abbeyfield project, please visit their crowd funding page.
